There is certainly one major benefit to writing, which can also be the greatest of disadvantages. It would be the delete button. If something is not going well one might wipe away all evidence of a project gone wrong, for better or worse. To this point it has been for worse. And so I begin again. It is sort of like any game of childhood. If you don’t like the results, you can always call for a “do over” as no one ever planned far enough ahead to say they are not allowed. But there are rules to this process this time.
2. Get off the internet.
3. Read more stories similar to what I am writing.
4. Stay off of the delete button, edit later.
6. Read about writing only as it relates to difficulties currently faced in style or process.
8. Trust my abilities.
9. Don’t show my hand too soon.
Can you guess which rule is most important? I hope to update this journal from time to time, discussing what is or is not working. The rub is that updating this forum cannot interfere with the actual task of writing. Wish me luck.
